Hue – the light in a dark connected future? presented by Remco Magielse, Philips Lighting

Remco Magielse states that Lighting is at the core of human existence. Research has shown how lighting has visual, emotional, biological and social impact on our daily behavior.

Philips Hue was among the first connected smart lighting technologies. These capabilities open up a complete new space for people to interweave lighting in their daily rituals and habits. About Remco Magielse
Remco Magielse completed his master studies Industrial Design in 2009 at the Eindhoven University of Technology. In 2014 he successfully defended his dissertation ‘How to design for Adaptive Lighting Environments – Embracing complexity in designing for systems’. Currently he works as system engineer in the pre-development of Philips Hue, where he focusses on the human aspects of new features for the Philips Hue system.

  1. Wow, I’m only just hearing about ‘connected lighting’. I’m just blown away by how far technology has come in the last 20 years. I think about my 3 kids and how the world will be so different for them when they are adults compared to how I grew up. Interesting philosophical point about how lighting is at the core of human existence – definitely true if you think about the sun being the cause of all life.
